Contrasting art forms

Building a photo story

While travelling around Portugal we came across this amazing scene, I felt very compelled to photograph it, everything about the way the image is composed was very intentional, hoping to showcase the amazing contrasts in the final image.

The vegitation at the bottom anchors the picture in a way that only nature can, she doesn't care too much about the state of her surroundings, just as long as there is enough light and water to sustain life. Nobody is coming around on a regular basis to cut this plant life back, or worse still, uproot it.

The graffiti was carefully and skilfully applied for maximum visual impact, the artist was so proud of her work that she even signed and dated it for all to see.

The stark contrast between the old pitted concrete wall and the newly whitewashed concrete villa next door added more depth to the story.

The decaying pillars on either side of the foreground add more contrast when compared to the perfect structures at the front of the new villa, maybe in a hundred or so years, they'll go the same way.

I can only assume that the new villa owner is hoping the decayed property next door will soon be replaced by something more modern and in keeping with their hopes for the neighbourhood, but who knows, the old building has been there for many years and doesn't appear to be in a hurry for change.
